Upcoming Nicaraguan coffee harvest forecast to decline after heavy rain

Thursday, September 23, 2010

Nicaragua's coming coffee harvest will fall 15 percent from the current cycle which ends this month, after an active storm season knocked out roads and damaged crops, the national coffee council said.

Nicaragua, like other parts of Central America, was battered by Tropical Storm Agatha in late May followed by months of heavier than normal rains.

The country is seen producing 1.3 million 60-kg bags of coffee in the 2010/11 period, although the estimates are still preliminary.
