Walmart denies selling expired food in Nicaragua

Monday, February 10, 2014

The Nicaraguan affiliate of Walmart rejected last week a complaint by a consumer group that said the retail giant is selling expired food in this country.

"In 2013 we had more than 40 reviews of our supermarkets in Nicaragua, and the authorities never said that we had expired products," the manager of Corporate Affairs at Walmart for Mexico and Nicaragua, Eduardo Garcia said.

Leaders of the Consumer Defense Institute, or Indec, met in front of the Walmart-owned supermarket Pali with products they said were recently bought there and that were apparently expired, but García said the company never received a formal complaint.
