Walmart launches summit for farmers

Walmart México y Centroamérica is holding what it calls the first international summit of purchasing direct from farmers.

The event is to be held in San José, Costa Rica. Company executives will analyze strategies for purchasing direct from producers, as already happens in Central America with the Terra Fertil program.

Walmart seeks to achieve targets ion sustainable agriculture that were set in 2010. By 2015, the company aims to sell $1 billion of food purchases from small farmers in emerging countries.
