Walmart's rapid growth divides opinions in Mexico

Walmart built rapidly in small Mexican cities and it has also saturated the capital, with stores over the past two decades, becoming not only Mexico's biggest retailer but its biggest employer.

The think tank México Evalúa credits Walmart with driving down prices and shaking up a retail sector known more for collusion than competition.

But critics complain of a darker side. Several academics have taken issue with Walmart's labor practices.
