Washington blocks aid for police in Honduras
The US government is blocking finance for police in Honduras under the command of Juan Carlos Bonilla pending an inquiry into claims that he led a death squad a decade ago.
The United States promised $56 million in aid to Honduras for this year, mainly to fight drugs.
US law says that 20 percent of the aid must be blocked when the State Department proves that Honduras is not doing enough to clean up its human rights record.
