Widened Canal opens new era for Panama

This weekend’s inauguration of the widened Panama Canal provides an excellent opportunity to raise the rating of its debt, ratings agency Fitch said in a special report.

Fitch reckons that the windening will boost the Canal’s income that will combine with a reduction in the government’s fiscal deficit and ease the burden of its debt.
