World Bank backs Panama gas plant with $150 million

The World Bank’s International Finance Corporation reported a $150 million loan to finance Central America’s first liquefied natural gas plant, which is due to come on stream in Panama in 2018.
The plant will fire a 350-megawatt generation unit being built by AES Panama, located on Telfers Island in the province of Colon. The project requires total investment of $800 million, AES says.
