World economic slowdown hits Panama Canal

Thursday, February 28, 2013

The Panama Canal is going to fall short of its cargo target for the year by 4 million tons because of the slowdown in the world economy.

The slowdown will become evident in March through June, said Jorge Luis Quijano, the administrator of the Canal.

The crisis in Europe and the slow recovery in the United States and China are the factors that weigh most heavily on the Canal's results.
