Guatemalan remittances boom, with $4 billion in six months

Guatemalan emigrants grew by 8.6 percent year-on-year from January through June.

Remittances in the first half of 2018 came to $4.39 billion, up from $4.05 billion in the same period of 2017.

Last year, Guatemala received $8.19 billion in remittances, an increase of 14.4 percent on 2016. This year the central bank is forecasting growth of 9 to 12 percent growth in remittances.
