Nicaragua’s economy is crumbling but remittances are booming

The Nicaraguan economy is being crippled by months of political violence but remittances are surging.
In the first five months of this year, the Central Bank reported remittances of $609 million, a 10.2 percent increase compared with the same period of last year.
In May alone, remittances were $127 million, a 5 percent increase.
