Telefónica mulls acquisition of DirecTV

Spanish telecom Telefónica could move into the satellite TV in Latin America — including much of Central America — through an acquisition of DirecTV.

To do so it would have to join forces with Liberty Global, which recently absorbed the operations in Panama of Cable&Wireless. The target markets are El Salvador, Guatemala, Nicaragua, Costa Rica, Panamá, Ecuador and Uruguay, according to Reuters.
